How the daily sudoku works

How to play

Fill every row, every column and every 3 × 3 box with the digits 1 to 9, so each appears once. Some squares start filled in; the rest are yours. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, so it can always be solved by logic, never by guessing.

Two puzzles a day

The speed challenge is a gentle sudoku with five minutes on the clock, and you can keep going past the limit. The daily puzzle is a moderate sudoku with no time limit; the clock only keeps count. New puzzles arrive at midnight, wherever you are, and the clock stops whenever you step away.

Graded like the book

Two separate solvers check that each puzzle has one solution, then a third solves it the way a person would. Gentle puzzles need only singles; moderate ones need pairs, triples or pointing pairs. It's the same engine that makes nine, the monthly pocket puzzle book, and the website's puzzles never repeat in print.

Streaks and records

Solve either puzzle to keep your streak going, month after month. Finish the speed challenge inside five minutes to see how you compare with everyone else that day. With a free account you'll keep personal records for the week, month, year and all time.

Congratulations!
